Highlands Community Services is proud to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Children’s Campus next Saturday, May 13 with a Family Fun Day from 9 a.m. to Noon.
The new facility, located in Abingdon, provides the community with a state-of-the-art, therapeutic, recovery-centered space; allows for improved collaboration with community partners; increase efficiencies of services; and save taxpayer dollars by keeping services right here in the community.
The Family Fun Day event celebrates the families in our community with activities for all ages, including: early morning activities like a Paper Moon Studios Art Class and a Whitetop Yoga Family Yoga Practice, and breakfast and activities provided by Food City Kids Club. The drop-in event kicks off at 10 a.m. with outdoor inflatables and climbing tower, activity stations, face painting and a performance by newcomer children’s band Cheeseburger, No Cheese. The event is free for all, but early morning activities do require a reservation.
“The initiative to build a first-class therapeutic program for children in need of our type of services has been in the making for the past eight years, and has now become a reality. Consolidating many of our children services under one roof will greatly enhance the quality of services we now provide to children and their families. In the last several years, the number of children involved in one or more of our therapeutic programs across Washington County and the City of Bristol has swelled from approximately 450 children to nearly 1900 children. The Children’s Campus now provides a comprehensive state of the art behavioral health continuum and an invaluable resource for our community.”
