Have you ever wanted anything really, really bad, but just couldn’t make that BIG first step? Yeah, know the feeling – and so did Dolly Self. She had spent a lifetime in the food industry, managing kitchens and restaurants, and doing an exemplary job. But she always had in the back of her mind that she wanted to own her own place. Time was passing, as they say, so eleven years ago she decided to start saving so she could realize her dream. Nine long years went by but Dolly gradually built up her meager war chest. Then, driving to work one day, she spotted a building that had previously had a church as an occupant but was now empty and available. She called the realtor, met her an hour later, did a walk-through and said, “I’ll take it.”
Working night and day for the next eight weeks, Dolly finally, after overcoming many setbacks, opened her own place, Dolly’s Diner, on Hwy 126, the road to the airport from downtown Blountville.
As cool of a story that is, the ensuing success is what makes it a great story. She used her vast experience to create simple yet delicious meals for breakfast and lunch – only to find out that folks wanted her food for all three meals! Her special take on the pepper gravy in her biscuits and gravy breakfast entree is mouthwatering. Her burgers are freshly made every day, never from frozen meat. They can customize a dessert to please the most discerning palate. It’s just plain old good home cooking with a dab of Dolly pizzazz. No wonder her count of regulars is high and growing. Dolly works hard at it, and takes pride in never asking an employee to do something she wouldn’t do. Truly a family atmosphere. If you don’t stop by, it’s you that is missing out!
