Being a part of not only the Holy Taco family, but downtown’s family has been amazing the last almost five years. Having a job where I can be myself, enjoy my time while making a living, love my work family who have become even more than that, and get to know people with some becoming life-long friends has been simply amazing. I have been in the service industry for a little more than 14 years, wow, you don’t really realize how old you are until you say that aloud. But it has been trying and amazing all at the same time. Working for Holy Taco has been one of my favorites. Not only bartending but waiting tables as well, the employees of Holy Taco, I feel are something special. It has to be an amazing job right? There are five employees that have been there at least 4 ½ years, “The OGs”, as we call ourselves. Along with others that have come and gone in the past, we deem ourselves a family. I have a college degree, along with others at Holy Taco, but our job is just too good to walk away yet. These people have become my very best friends whom I’m thankful to have in my life, truly.
Being a married bartender, some say, would be difficult. Balancing my work life and home life. Being a married bartender and a mother, some would say is very challenging, and it is. But working for this amazing company has allowed me to take my life in stride. My schedule works amazing with my husband’s, also a downtown bartender at Capone’s (the big beardy one that’s fun to look at), and still allows time to be with my family. Holy Taco is so unique to where it holds something for the entire family. Let me tell you a little about that.
Being a small restaurant and bar, some don’t realize we are a kid-friendly until 10pm (just an understood time, no restrictions). We offer a kids menu, suitable atmosphere and are even dog friendly of all types on our amazing patio (one of the largest patios downtown) tucked sweetly between some of the tallest buildings, boy if these walls could talk. We have daily lunch specials that really allow you to try our featured meats and decide for yourself which is the best, my personal favs are carne asada and el camaron; which is seasoned flank steak and diablo shrimp. The lunch special allows you to choose two tacos with a small side of chips and salsa for $4.99 daily from 11-3pm and ALL DAY on Tuesdays for Taco Tuesday. Amazing little deal for downtown workers to hop in for a quick lunch break and feel full and refreshed when returning to their busy work day. Our happy hour, which we have been chosen as ‘best for 2018’ is delightful with discounted prices on drafts, bottles and cans, and our mouth-watering margaritas. We pride ourselves on our well-rounded draft list that changes almost every day, but is available on the free app ‘untappd’, not a typo. With 21 different taps changing when a keg is blown we offer the tastiest group of drafts even some from our very own local breweries. Seasonal drafts are always a big seller, but as many know, nothing compares to our margaritas. Having close to 52 tequilas, give or take, we can definitely find a tequila that will bring a smile to your face. We have nightly specials that are unique to every night of the week starting at 7pm. Our kitchen offers full menu until 10pm Sunday-Wednesday, 11pm on Thursday (along with FREE TRIVIA), and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
Giving my personal, ‘on the other side of the bar’ opinion of my beloved workplace, I hope I have brought you through my journey to give you a little view of why I love where I work. I could honestly go on and on, but I will let you decide for yourself. Bring your family and friends in and get to know us while downtown Johnson City continues to grow and thrive into becoming of the most beautiful places around, offering adequate weather for every season, beautiful scenery, and the most amazing and polite people you will ever come to meet.
Below is one of our best selling margaritas and will be sure to tickle your fancy if you like sweet and savory, along with my personal concoction that has become very popular on the weekends served as a drink or shot. The ladies and gents love it (even with the name ‘little mermaid’).
