Have the military pay for your college. Go in as an officer

I still stay in touch with two people from the service. Lifelong friendships
What was the best and worst ‘military’ food you were served, and why?
Powdered eggs. Worst. Bacon. Best
Tell me a funny story you experienced that could only happen in the military.
Officers had their owns bathrooms. One bathroom needed a key and most officers knew it as the 512 key. We would take new recruits and send them rushing with this key up to the flight deck as a matter of “mission critical”. He would stop the pilot before he got to his aircraft and say “sir this is the 512 key you need for your mission”. The pilot would throw the key on the flight deck and say” this is the wrong damn key”
How did (does) your military experience affect your life today?
The military taught me how to stay on task. My business partner and I recently bought the old Blue Moon Theatre. With a million things to Do before we opened, that skill the military gave me, served me well.
Were you awarded any medals or citations? How did you get them?
National service medal and various Persian Gulf Medals for being in the war
Do you recall the day your service ended? Where were you?
I do. I hopped on a bus in Norfolk, Virginia and went straight to Auburn to watch my little sister graduate from Auburn University, and stopped by to see my friend at Theta Chi. It was Greek Week. I met my business partner shortly after. Ken Jacobson and I have been talking about opening a night club for the last 20 years
What did you do in the days and weeks afterward?
My son wanted to go to ETSU for college so he and I moved up here one year ago so I could be close during his college years
Where did you travel while in the service?
England, Spain, Jerusalem, Greece, Crete, Turkey, and I’ve traveled a good part of the world since. America is very small in size compared to the big beautiful world out there
Why did you pick the service branch you joined?
That’s an easy one. I was just about to sign up for the Army for 5 years and my father told me about a brand new program the Navy had for 10 years. 8 years inactive reserves after only TWO YEARS active military on the USS AMERICA CV-66.
Do you recall your first days in service?
I do. They kept us up the entire day poking and prodding and getting us assigned.
Was there something special you did for “good luck”?
I don’t really believe in luck or coincidence. I believe everything happens for a reason.
Did you work or go back to school?
Both. I had gone to college prior to joining and went back after I got out. Most of my career has been with, Sales, Marketing, and Real Estate
