Clarence’s Drive-In is a gem nestled in Unicoi, TN and was started in 1969 when Clarence Tapp purchased the restaurant from Clyde Engle. The restaurant has been in their family ever since.
Clarence’s began as a drive-in complete with carhops. It has grown to a sit-down family dining and takeout restaurant. They expanded the menu and added breakfast over time. In November 2017 a fire destroyed the restaurant. In just two and a half weeks the owners had reopened Clarence’s in an open spot not far from the original restaurant in order to continue to serve their customers. They have since purchased a new location that is currently being renovated with a tentative date to open in May (1502 N Main Street in Erwin – the old Wendy’s building). Their staff and customers were very supportive during the aftermath of the fire.
Clarence’s is committed to their customers and serving the best food for an affordable price. Clarence’s views their customers and staff as family and therefore serves food of
the utmost quality. They have a variety of dishes ranging from homestyle to vegan. Many tastes to satisfy the palate. They have taken their 1960’s style diner and expanded and moved with the times to cater to the variety of tastes of today’s generation.
Clarence’s is open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Some of their most popular dishes include: Made from Scratch Gravy and Biscuits, French Toast, pan fried Chicken, and Hamburger Steaks just to name a few. Don’t forget to save room for dessert! The hand-dipped ice cream, banana splits, hot fudge cakes, and hand-dipped milkshakes will be sure to never disappoint.
