May 19-25, 2019, is the 45th annual National EMS Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. The National Association of EMT’s (NAEMT) collaborates with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to lead annual EMS Week activities. Together, NAEMT and ACEP are working to ensure that the important contributions of EMS practitioners in safeguarding the health, safety and wellbeing of their communities are fully celebrated and recognized. EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s “front line.”
In celebration of EMS Week, Washington County / Johnson City EMS will be holding FREE “Hands-Only-CPR” clinics for the community.
Hands-Only-CPR is CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult collapse in an “out-of-hospital” setting (such as at home, at work or in a park). It consists of only two easy steps & only takes a couple of minutes to teach and learn a valuable skill that just might save a life.
- Call 9-1-1 (or send someone to do that).
2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.
