Abingdon Vineyards has new owners, new wines and a whole summer of fun events! From Napa to Appalachia, the Gardner Family made the move from California to Virginia to grow the legacy of Abingdon Vineyards. The winery was first started in 2001 by retired engineers, who planted 13 acres of grapes and built a beautiful tasting room on the shores of the South Holston River. In 2018, the Gardners stumbled upon the winery and fell in love with the gorgeous landscape, delicious wine, and gracious community. In the summer of 2018, the family purchased the winery and began working to grow the already beautiful vineyard. In this first year, the Gardners have created world-class wines and hosted live music, wine dinners, festivals, cooking workshops, art classes, weddings, conferences, bridal showers and more.
Loren Gardner grew up in Napa Valley and has always had a fascination for the wine industry. He studied viticulture and winemaking at UC Davis and built many wineries and vineyards with his construction company. He was, and still is, excited to learn about the unique terroir of Abingdon Vineyards and create world-class wines with regional grape varieties. Elizabeth Gardner is a Stanford graduate, Certified Natural Chef, Master Gardener, and has a Teaching Credential and Master’s Degree in Education. An entrepreneur at heart, Elizabeth has started and sold two businesses in California. Her passions for community building, event planning, and design help make Abingdon Vineyards an enjoyable destination.
