The Excitement is building for the 2019 Appalachian Fair, August 19 – 24. Advance Reserved Ticket Sales begin July 20th at 9:00 am at the Fairgrounds. On-line ticket sales open at 11:00 am. Phone orders will be accepted beginning 11:00 am, Monday, July 22nd, by calling 423-477-1420. Also sold in advance are Parking and Season Passes.
When the 2019 Appalachian Fair opens this year, the theme will be “There is no Time Like Fair Time”! The fair opens on Aug. 19 and continues through Aug. 24. While many people go to the fair to enjoy the midway and the entertainment, many others also want to view the various exhibits in the Farm & Home Building, Youth Buildings and Livestock. And if you plan to make entries into this year’s fair, you’ll have to prepare now. Have some pies or casseroles you believe are special? Have you an afghan that you think is a blue ribbon winner? Are some of your flowers and vegetables of championship caliber? Also, new for 2019, is the Poetry Contest. The adult competitive pre-entry deadline is August 1st. Entries will also be accepted the day items are due. The new livestock entry deadline to enter Beef, Dairy or Sheep is July 25th. Career & Technology Education (CTE), 4-H, FCCLA & FFA entry deadline’s are Thursday, July 25. The Fair has a full schedule of entertainment on the Museum Stage this year.
The fair opens on Aug. 19 and continues through Aug. 24 at the fairgrounds. The annual Fairest of the Fair pageant will be staged on opening day at 7:30 p.m. The pageant features young women in evening gowns. The winner receives a $2500 scholarship award. The winner represents the fair during the week and then at the January meeting of the Tennessee Association of Fairs in Nashville where she will compete for the Tennessee Fairest of the Fair title. Deadline for entry August 8.
Ali Kosinski is the 2018-2019 Fairest of the Fair. The Little Miss contests will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 for ages 2-15. Deadline Thursday, Aug. 8 or until practice if space is available. Appalachian Fair’s Look – Alike Contest, Wed., Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The Youth Talent Contest is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22. The winner will go on to compete in the Youth Talent show at the Tennessee Valley A&I Fair in Knoxville in September. Deadline for entry August 1. So You Think You Can Dance Contest will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. Deadline for entry August 9. Appalachian Fair’s Got Talent is always a crowd pleaser. This contest is set for Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. This contest is divided into 2 divisions: Division I is for ages 6-17 while Division II is for ages 18 and up. Deadline for entry is August 9. The annual Baby Show will be on Saturday, Aug. 24 for babies 6 – 24 months. (No pre-registration required). Information and entry forms are available at www.appalachianfair.com
As always, there is always exciting entertainment in the Appalachian Arena this year. The Monster Trucks are back for Monday and Tuesday nights at 7pm.
