This week, we are doing a section to feature our column writers who you read every week, but you don’t really get a chance to find out who they are! Here is your chance to meet our writers and what they do outside of writing for the Loafer! We hope you enjoy getting to know them and their other interests.
Kathie Scalf is a single, 30something lifestyle columnist chronicling her experiences as a lifelong resident of Appalachia. Currently splitting her time between the Tri-Cities and Nashville, she is a sales representative for a distributor of fine wines and spirits. She loves travel, food, and exercise, and tries to learn something new every day. Always on the go, in her rare spare time she enjoys a night on the couch watching Frasier reruns and cuddling her dogs just as much as a night in the city with dinner, drinks and music. Her many talents include calorie counting, being an amazing dancer and gangster rapping after too much wine. She hopes by writing with complete transparency about the ups and downs of her life, even one person might feel less alone or feel inspired to also live as authentically, unapologetically themselves and create the life of their dreams.
I am from Erwin, TN and graduated from Unicoi County High School and East Tennessee State University. I have been involved in radio, television, and newsprint. I was an extra in a Dolly Parton movie which was a blast! I have been with The Loafer since 1992, and it has been a privilege and honor to write for the beloved paper. I am a huge Batman fan, and love movies and collecting pop culture items. I also love and support my ETSU Buccaneers. I also believe in helping and supporting one another to always be our best selves.
